New Site Design

I changed the design of the site yesterday. It’s not completely done but it’s a good start. I’m sure most of you get the site content through RSS so you probably have now idea what it looked like before. I changed things for a number of reasons.

1. The new design is wider. I always had to edit embed code to fit my small theme before. I should be able to use the embed code from widescreen youtube videos.

2. The new design is slimmer meaning that page load times should be faster. It calls the same files for pages and posts. My old design used different sidebars, for example, for each page. That means it had to serve up a new page every time.

3. There is now a next page button at the bottom of the homepage. I have had comments before about how to scroll through the content on my site, Tim!

Overall I think the site will be easier for you to navigate around and find older posts. I still want to add custom search, sharing buttons and a few other things.

Thanks everyone for following the site. Have a Happy Easter today if that’s your thing.

Looks great! Defintely more readable and visually appealing. Maybe I should swipe it. 😉 Love how you incorporated that 300×250 Google ad in the sidebar. Instead of a 768x wd leaderboard though, a 468px unit after the byline will blend in better AND make you more money. 🙂

I’m glad you like it. I don’t like the 768 ad either but it had the highest CTR on the last theme so I didn’t want to abandon it. I’ll be doing some playing around.

Check out how Lilliputing is doing the 468 under the headline on individual post pages. I think it’d fit under the byline on your theme. Run it for two weeks instead of the 768. If you make less, I’ll pay you the difference. 😉

I changed it and like it a lot. I think it will do very well.

What mobile theme are you using? I’m not satisfied with mine…

It’s WPtouch iPhone theme plug-in. It works with iPhone, iPod touch, Android phones and Blackberry storm. Lots of features in the backend that I haven’t even played with to customize look and feel to match your site.
