My Multimedia Machine

I wanted to post what my multimedia machine is. It is a machine that I built myself. It not only is my multimedia machine but it is also my main work machine. Multi purpose. Well here are the specs: P4 3.0GHz, 2GB of PC3200, 2 160 GB hard drives, 1 36GB Raptor Drive, ATI All in Wonder 9800 Pro, Sound Blaster live, 8x DVD burner, Thermaltake 480w power supply, and a lot of fans. Here are some pictures. The pictures are from when I added more memory and fans.

The above pictures are of my case with the new parts next to it. 1GB of memory and the new fans. Those P4 with the 1MB of cache run really hot. Plan for that. My case doesn’t have a front fan opening so it is hard to keep cool air going in. Next time I will know.
Example
The case is a mess in this picture. I figured that since I was adding new parts I should unhook everything and do some cable management. Plus cable management helps with airflow.
Example
This is a picture of the raptor dive with the hard drive cooler I bought. The hard drive temp was fine but I thought for the price I had to have it.
Example
This is a picture of the new hard drive bay cooler. Yes I know it’s not black. Newegg didn’t have black in stock. I am going to take the front grill off and paint it black to match. But I am also not using it for a hard drive cooler. I needed a way to bring air in from the front. This device does a great job.
Example
This is with the grill removed. I bought the 3 fan setup. Some people complain about the noise on this model but I think it is fine. But I also didn’t build a silent computer either.
Example
This is with everything installed back into the case. It is hard to really get the idea of the cable management. The cables are nicely routed down the sides and away from any blowing air. The picture just doesn’t do it justice.
Example
This is a close up of the Thermaltake power supply. I have been very happy with this model. I consider my case to have a lot of things in it and this thing doesn’t even struggle powering everything. Plus all the cables are really long and it has adjustable fan controller. Which was mounted on the front of my case.
Example
This is a close up of the P4 3.0GHz processor. You can also see the 2GB of memory to the right. The mother board is also intel.
Example
Here you can see the ATI AIW 9800 Pro. This card is great. It can play any game on the market without problems. It’s multimedia functions are great too. Right under the ATI card is an exhaust blower. This is to take the heat from the graphics card and throw it right out the back. Cuts down on case temps. Under that is the Sound blaster live card. It is not high end but it does what I need it to do.
Example
Here is the 3 hard drives I have in the machine. I mounted the raptor drive in the floppy location. I wanted space between the hard drives. Plus with the cooler on the hard drive it wouldn’t fit anywhere else. I had to bend the metal supports to get it to fit there.
Example
Another picture of the entire inside of the case.
Example
All put back together and ready to start playing.

This computer does everything that I need it to do. With 320GB of storage space I can store all my digital media. The ATI card is setup as my DVR. I set what time I want to record or the entire season and it does it. The computer also has 5.1 dolby digital surround sound. So playing back all those movies, music, or playing games sounds great. Eventually I want to talk about all the main parts seperate. Give the good and bad on them. So check back.
