Google Officially Announces Android 2.2

Google today announced Android 2.2 with lots of new features. Speed, Flash, ability to save apps on SD and wifi tethering were all there. They created a short video, which I have embedded below, to show off some of the new features. Android is so fragmented right now that I won’t be holding my breath for the new version. I’m sure it will be available soon but probably for a new phone. I’ll have to wait for Verizon to get around to rolling out 2.2 for the Droid. My other concern with the 2.2 update is that even when I do get it that carriers will charge for the tethering. I can tether now using bluetooth or USB for free and really don’t want to pay for the wifi tethering. I’ll have to wait to see though. Overall Android 2.2 has a lot of new features and I’m really looking forward to it. I hope Google, Verizon, and Motorola get it to my phone as fast as possible.
