Firefox 3.6 Works with Accelerometer

The video above is Firefox 3.6 repositioning web pages using the laptops accelerometer. I’m having a hard time thinking of the benefits to this but it looks really cool. The accelerometer is built into laptops to protect hard drives from falls or if you decide to shake it. I’m sure there will be some games that come out where you have to spin your laptop around to complete some sort of challenge. What do you think it will be used for?

I reckon it will be used for games. i.e. some handheld tablet, running firefox, think bigger iphone.

I have been playing around with the accelerometer for myself, check out my youtube video: http://bit.ly/wLGb9 or try out the webpage itself http://playground.marmaladeontoast.co.uk/ff3.6

Going to try and build a game to show the capabilities, but that is as far as I have got so far.

Let me know what you think
