DVPRemote Now Provides Roku Support on iPad

DVPRemote has landed on the iPad with the 2.2 update. I have posted about DVPRemote a few times in the past. If you have a Roku box and a iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad you need DVPRemote.

Official XBMC Remote for Android

XBMC has a official remote app for Android. It’s not completely finished yet but it’s in the Android Market for you to try out. You need at least Android 1.5 and XBMC 9.11. They have a screenshot gallery for you to check out. It looks really good especially since they say they aren’t finished yet.

Re Universal Remote for iPhone

Re universal remote is a dongle for your iPhone or iPod Touch that send IR commands. It’s not cheap at $70 but will allow you to get rid of those other remotes laying around. I personally would rather have a Harmony for around the same price that I could use without looking at it. Touchscreen remotes look nice but you have to look at it for every button press. The dongle is available through their site and Amazon.

Use RemoteX for iPhone to Control 12 Windows Media Players

RemoteX is a iPhone/iPod Touch app that allows you to control 12 different Windows media players. Programs like XBMC, VLC, Windows Media Player and iTunes. The lite version of the app is free while the full app is 99 cents. The video below gives a little demo of it and they used the lite version. The program only works with Windows.

Control AMX Systems from the iPad Using iRidium

The average person probably doesn’t have a full AMX control center in the house. But if you do iRidium has you covered by allowing you to control the system using a iPad or iPhone/iPod Touch. I’m interested in these apps because of smart classrooms. The possibilities of a presenter walking into the classroom and controlling the system from their iPad. Then hooking up the VGA dongle and presenting directly from the device. The iRidium software is $160 which isn’t bad since the hardware it is controlling isn’t cheap. The app is available in the app store.

- Support of XBMC media-server
- Support of video in JPEG, MJPEG formats
- Support of graphical interfaces, dynamic control elements, animation, translucency
- Support of additional equipment operating (Kramer, GlobalCache, KeyDigital, Extron, IRTrans, etc.)

Raemote Turns Your Nokia N900 into a Apple Remote

The Raemote is a widget for the Nokia N900 that acts like a Apple Remote. It uses the built-in infrared port to fire the commands. The video below is of it in action. Looks cool but they need to update the look to the new Apple Remote. The old white remote is dated.

Logitech Announces Two New Harmony Remotes for under $100

Logitech announced two new harmony remotes. The 650 and the 600 are both under $100 which is a great price point to it. The 650 being the nicer of the two is $100 and features a color screen. The 600 is only $80 and doesn’t have a colored screen. I would spend the extra $20 for a color screen. I currently have the 890 and 880 at my house and have setup a 550 and 880 for family. These are great remotes that are easy to program. I’ll probably be looking at the 650 for the bedroom. Right now you can pre-order the 650 from Amazon.

Lenovo Mini HTPC Keyboard

The Lenovo Multimedia Remote would be a nice addition to your HTPC. It’s small, wireless and gives you control over mouse and text inputs. The price isn’t bad either at $60. With these types of strange remote designs I like to see the reviews on them. The GlideTV remote came across better than I thought. The Lenovo remote wouldn’t be a full time media center remote but used for text entry.

* 2.4G wireless keyboard and mouse(with track ball) combo
* Palm-sized dimensions
* As far as 10 meters control distance
* Windows multimedia control
* Compatible with Windows® 2000 Windows® XP & Windows Vista® & Windows® 7

GlideTV Navigator Remote Review

I have been somewhat critical of the GlideTV Remote since it was announced. There have been a few reviews that have made me rethink the remote. Brent from GeekTonic reviewed the remote and did a great job at it. Pretty much anything you wanted to know about the remote is in the review. The remote isn’t for everyone but it does a great job with it’s web services and navigating around. Wish the price was a little lower than the $149 price.

Control FiOS TV From Your Droid or Imagio

Verizon has released a remote control app for the Droid and Imagio. It acts as a TV remote allowing you to change channels, record, pause and anything else your remote can do. It does all that over wireless in your home. Another really cool feature is that it will allow you to stream pictures from your Droid to the TV wirelessly. While Droid and Imagio are the only two cellphones supported they say more will be included in the next few months. Video overview below.
