Electronic House has an article about building a multimedia PC. The article is long and gives some good information if your planning on building your first multimedia PC. They talk about HD video/audio and which components they used. I would say it would be good for a beginner to read. They do talk about overclocking the CPU which I wouldn’t recommend for a first timer building a multimedia PC though.

In the past I haven’t really kept any stats on this site. It was a year ago today that I decided that I wanted to work hard on the site and make it something. I have been pleased with how far it has come. Before I started actually devoting more time to the site almost 100% of my traffic was to my original post about the mineral oil computer. Now that post has only accounted for about 23% of the traffic on the site, and it continues to drop as I have other popular posts. In the past year I have had over 8,000 visits and over 12,000 page views. This was all while working a full time job and building my house, which after 9 months is almost completed. I have also changed the URL from blogspot to my own domain. I did this because eventually I might switch over to my own servers like my other sites. There are two screen shots of some of the stats. Thank you everyone for visiting.

The product is now shipping and reviews are showing up on their site. The product looks really promising, but I haven’t personally used it. A user posted a comment on my original post yesterday about

new products coming out including outdoor speakers and an independent audio transmitter.

The user referred to customers so my guess is it’s someone from EOS. This is good news for people that purchase the system for full house music. Soon they will be able to take the sound outside. I have emailed them for more information and will post when I hear back.

UPDATE:

I got a response back from EOS Wirless. There are some new things coming out. Not immediatly but it is still something to look forward too. Below is the response from the email.

1) Eos can already be used outside. While it is not waterproof you can
simply plug it into a plug and turn it on. I use mine at home that way.
2) Wireless transmitter: This will be sold to people who do not want
speakers on their transmitter dock. This product will be shipping in Q1
2008.
3) The outdoor speaker which will be water resistant will be shipping in
June 2008.

It also looks like I will be able to demo the current system. I will post a review after I have some time to play around with it. Check back for that, I’m excited!!

10 things to consider before upgrading your DVR to high definition. I personally am waiting awhile before I need my recording in HD. Reason 1 below is why.

1) Are you cheap? This is the biggest and most important question. Admit it, you’re cheap. Hell, I’m pretty cheap too. Do you really need to spend $500 or $2000 for a system only to have to keep on paying rental or subscription fees of nearly $100 a month? Do you really want to watch that much TV? If not, then renting a HD DVR from your cable company or building your own Myth TV or XP Media Center Edition box with an over the air (OTA) HD recorder could be for you.

I couldn’t go to the WWDC so I decided to watch the live updates online. I thought it was pretty blah. A few new features in 10.5 and with the iPhone. I liked it better when they would talk about this cool new stuff and I could run out and buy it right after the keynote. I would still be on a high from the keynote and spend money I normally wouldn’t spend. With 10.5 and iPhone I have to wait. Waiting makes people lose enthusiasm. The only thing that did come out of it is Safari for Windows. The new version is 3 and really it does what they claim, SPEED. It is really fast loading image heavy websites. The only problem is I have become so comfortable with Firefox that just speed isn’t enough for me to switch. Plus one of the things I like in Vista is transparent menus for the programs. Safari doesn’t allow this along with iTunes. I know they are trying to create a product image but it feels like it doesn’t fit with the OS. My feelings are that the WWDC of 2007 was a disappointment. I’m sure that I’m not the only one.
