It’s nice that Microsoft is making it easy to get your creative work out to the world.

Lots of new things came out at E3. First they launched the new look of the Xbox 360 with slimmer size, bigger hard drive and wireless. It was time for them to refresh the look and I think it looks really good.

Second they announced Kinect, which was called project natal. I had mixed feelings about Kinect and how it would be different than a Wii setup. Well they showed that it’s more than just a motion control and might actually get me to buy an Xbox 360. Not only will Kinect allow you to control games but allows for video chat and voice control. The price isn’t bad either at $149 or $399 for the Elite bundle. The one issue that bothers me is the USB connection. With so many people hanging TVs I would have rather seen a wireless connection for Kinect. Unless I missed something it looks like it’s only USB.

It also works with photos and videos as well. It will convert the videos to work with the KIN. I have used Mark/Space software in the past and it works very well. It’s nice to see them expanding to such a new device.

It means that Windows Media Center could be on set-tops and connected TVs. It also might provide the extender functionality that Windows Media Center fans have been waiting for. CableCard has been making promising steps forward. Windows 7 added some really nice features to media center. Getting devices that act as extenders might be that last piece to push whole home DVR.

The new V2 Windows Home Server is based on Server 2008 vs. the original which was based on 2003. It is 64-bit only and supports new media sharing features along with easier to use user interface. MediaSmartServer.net already has a review up. It’s long but has a lot of information in there. I’ve been holding off doing to much to my Windows Home Server as I was planning on building a new energy efficient one with my Thermaltake Armor case.

That’s a lot of add-ins in one sentence. You can browse add-ins by a number of different criteria. The add-in is only in beta but anyone can try it out now. I’m glad there is a feature like this for Windows Home Server now. Before when you had add-ins installed you would have to check the developer website to see if updates where issued. That can be a pain to maintain.

Even though this plug-in exists now it is rumored that a feature like this will be built into the next version of Windows Home Server. Obviously Microsoft sees this as being important.
