XBMC for AppleTV2, iPad and iPhone

The XBMC team released a version for the AppleTV2, iPad and iPhone. This isn’t a streamer, it’s the full version of XBMC. That means no transcoding, you get full hardware decoding of 720p/1080p content. I was planning on installing it on my AppleTV2 but I didn’t have time this weekend. If you want to try it out you need to jailbreak your device first. After that the install isn’t too difficult. For detailed instruction for the AppleTV2 visit AppleTVHacks.net. Increase Windows Media Center Tuner Limit with TunerSalad

TunerSalad allows you to increase the tuner limit of Windows Media Center with just one click. It’s a free program but accepts donations. The limit in Windows Media Center is 4 tuners and the program will allow you to increase to 8 tuners. That’s good news if you plan on buying these new CableCard tuners on the market. There was an old way of doing this by changing the registry value.

Boxee Movie Libraries

Boxee added Movie Library to the Boxee Beta. It’s like the TV Show Library, allowing you to add titles to your queue for later viewing. There aren’t any major labels but there is still a lot of content on there. I’m sure this is just a start.

MyMovies for SageTV Available

The popular MyMovies add-in for Windows Media Center has made it so SageTV. MyMovies is a movie management software that provides you will all the details about the movie including the cover art. MyMovies uses a client server so you can have the server hold the main database while all your other machines can pull from that content. Makes it easy so you are only managing one database. It’s a nice addition for SageTV users.

Ceton InfiniTV 4 Review

The Digital Media Zone got the chance to review the Ceton InfiniTV 4. Just like the first review I posted of the card, they loved it. The Ceton card costs $399 but when you compare that to other cable and satellite DVR setups it’s not bad. The card gives you the ability to record 4 HD TV shows with a single card. Since it uses a CableCard it also does all your premium account. Check out their review.

The Boxee Box is getting close to being available for order. The final production model was sent to Boxee. It still looks good and it said in the video that it will ship in November. The video is below for you to check out.

ASRock Vision 3D HTPC

The ASRock Vision 3D HTPC packs a punch in a case the size of a Mac Mini. It will have either a Core i3/i5/i7 processor, DDR3 memory, 7.1 THX certified sound and an optional Blu-ray drive. And it will also have 3D graphics powered by NVidia. Not too bad in such a small enclosure. The HTPC will also have the ability to be controlled by a iPod Touch or iPhone with ASRock AIWI utility. Tranquil PC T7-MP2 Media Center Review

The Tranquil PC T7 is a low power, low noise and affordable HTPC. It is powered by the Atom 510 and NVidia ION to give you power to run Windows Media Center and HD content while staying energy efficient. It doesn’t have a DVD drive or tuners but works well as a second room HTPC or a HTPC that can pull all kinds of video from the web. UsingWindowsHomeServer got one and did a review of the unit.

New AppleTV Coming?

It is rumored that a new AppleTV is coming. The hardware will run a version of iPhone OS 4 and have the ability to dish out your content at 1080p. It will be like an iPhone without the screen. The best part is the $100 price tag. While this is all rumor it is right on what I would think the next AppleTV would be. The app store is huge and partly the reason behind the iPhones success. Bringing all those apps along with new and creative apps will make the AppleTV a very hot item. If Nintendo didn’t like Apple cutting into their DS sales with the iPod Touch, they really aren’t going to like this new AppleTV cutting into Wii sales.

Again, this is all rumor right now but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s not true.

Elgato Releases the EyeTV HD

Elgato released the EyeTV HD for cable and satellite HD content. It takes the component output on your set top box and feeds it into your computer, allowing you to record in HD with the EyeTV software. The EyeTV software is pretty slick along with the iPhone app that will allow you to stream to your phone. The EyeTV HD has a IR blaster so it can change the channels on the set top box. I wish that it would have had ethernet support. I don’t really want to buy another set top box for my computer when most likely one of my boxes wouldn’t be in use if I’m on my iMac. It’s still nice to see Elgato providing solutions for Mac DVRs. More info at Elgato.
