PadRacer Uses iPhones to Control iPad Race

PadRacer is an iPad game that uses iPhones or iPod touch to steer the cars. The game graphics isn’t anything breathtaking but it’s the idea of the using iPhones and iPod Touches that is worth a look. I see a lot more games hitting the app store that use iPhones and iPod Touches as controllers. There is a video below showing the game in action.

Wirelessly Sync Your iPhone with iTunes

There is a new iPhone app that would allow you to sync your iPhone to iTunes wirelessly. The program is called Wifi Sync. The problem is it hasn’t been approved by Apple for the App Store and it probably won’t be. Wireless syncing is a feature I have wanted for a long time, along with everyone else. My iPod Touch is generally in my car or in my bag. I use it more outside the home than I do inside the home. Having the ability to sync my apps and tunes while the iPod Touch sits in the car would be awesome. I’m holding off hope that it gets approved but if it doesn’t I hope that Apple understands this is a feature people want.

Re universal remote is a dongle for your iPhone or iPod Touch that send IR commands. It’s not cheap at $70 but will allow you to get rid of those other remotes laying around. I personally would rather have a Harmony for around the same price that I could use without looking at it. Touchscreen remotes look nice but you have to look at it for every button press. The dongle is available through their site and Amazon.

My Movies for iPhone

My Movies is the very popular movies database for Windows Media Center. It is now available on the iTunes store to make organizing your movies on the go easier. It will sync data between your phone and your computer. Right now there is a free version but plans are in place to limit that version and create a paid version. It will be similar to how the My Movies program works on Windows with a points system.

Use RemoteX for iPhone to Control 12 Windows Media Players

RemoteX is a iPhone/iPod Touch app that allows you to control 12 different Windows media players. Programs like XBMC, VLC, Windows Media Player and iTunes. The lite version of the app is free while the full app is 99 cents. The video below gives a little demo of it and they used the lite version. The program only works with Windows.

GPS Functionality On The iPod Touch

The one feature I have been wanting on the iPod Touch, well the iPad too, is GPS. Location based services are hot right now and will continue to grow. TUAW has a write up for getting GPS functionality on the Touch. No it’s not built-in and hidden. No it won’t work unless you jailbreak the device. It requires a paid program purchased through Cydia called roqyBluetooth which is $11. You will also need a bluetooth GPS device which they provided a link to one for $20.

It’s going to take a little work and a little money but if you really want GPS on the iPod Touch you can make it happen. I’m just glad there are others interested in GPS on the iPod Touch. Maybe Apple will listen and add it to a new release.

Stream March Madness Games Live to Your iPhone/iPod Touch

The March Madness On Demand app will allow you to stream all the games live to your iPhone or iPod Touch. While the app is $9.99 it will work over 3G and Edge. If you’re serious about your college basketball and away from a computer or TV it’s probably well worth the $9.99 price tag. There is a lite version that provides scores and news. I like how CBS is highlighting the Illinois lose in the screenshots. I’m just sad because we lost.

Air Video Streams Videos to Your iPhone

Air Video is a application on Windows or Mac that allows you to stream videos to your iPhone or iPod Touch. The file format doesn’t matter as it will convert it live for you to stream. It reminds me a lot of Orb but more simplistic. If you just want to stream videos the Air Video app sounds like a great program. There is a free version that has some limitations or you can buy the Pro app for $2.99.

Logitech Touch Mouse Turns Your iPhone into a Wireless Trackpad

Logitech released a iPhone app called Touch Mouse. It turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into a wireless trackpad. I’m guessing it won’t have a problem running on the iPad when it comes out. The great news is that it’s free and works with Mac and Windows. It’s available in the app store now.

Remotely Possible is a iPhone/iPod Touch that lets you control your Windows based computer including your HTPC. The app is $2.99 but seems like a really good deal for what it does. It can detect your Windows based computers on the network and auto-connect to them. It allows you to launch apps like Windows Media Center and Hulu. From there you can control it with gestures or buttons you customize. If you have tried it out let me know.
