It is powered by the Atom 510 and NVidia ION to give you power to run Windows Media Center and HD content while staying energy efficient. What we do know is that it has Tegra 2 powering the graphics which is a good thing. That will get you 1080p output to your TV. It’s the same chip in the new Boxee box. It’s also extremely slim which would be good to hide in your equipment rack. These devices are made just to pull content from either a central server or computer in your house. There are already a lot of media streamers on the market but I’m guessing this market will really expand this year.

Pretty much anything you wanted to know about the remote is in the review. The remote isn’t for everyone but it does a great job with it’s web services and navigating around. Wish the price was a little lower than the $149 price.

If you’re like me you still have a old Xbox laying around. I don’t use it but after reading over the Xbox to HTPC hacks at hackaday, I’m thinking I need to do something with it. While XBMC isn’t going to give you everything in a media center, it will give you a great look and the ability to stream SD content. HD audio and video isn’t possible for a number of reason on the xbox but the biggest reason is power of the unit. It’s still great for SD though. I have over 200 DVDs ripped to my Windows Home Server that the Xbox could take advantage of. Even if you don’t have a Xbox, you can find them cheap and load XBMC to have a cheap media center.

It allows you to launch apps like Windows Media Center and Hulu. From there you can control it with gestures or buttons you customize. If you have tried it out let me know.

There are a whole lot of media streamers on the market but they can be limited in what they can do. It might be time to step up to a HTPC to cover your needs. The new Atom and ION chips make getting HTPC a lot cheaper and with more power. Gizmodo has a great write-up on going to a HTPC and why it’s a better choice. They talk about many $300 HTPC computers, remotes and storage devices. The best part about a HTPC is it can do anything a computer can do. Hulu Desktop app, Boxee, Netflix streaming and any other online content you can search for and find. It’s come a long way since my expensive power hunger dual tuner setup.
