Everyone I know with the Droid Eris hasn’t received the update yet. It’s a slow rollout like the Droid so if you didn’t get it yesterday or today you will still be receiving it in the next few days.

MobileCrunch has the directions on getting it installed. There are a few steps but it’s fairly simple if you follow them. I haven’t done the upgrade yet but it’s probably on my list of things to do tonight.

It acts as a TV remote allowing you to change channels, record, pause and anything else your remote can do. It does all that over wireless in your home. Another really cool feature is that it will allow you to stream pictures from your Droid to the TV wirelessly. While Droid and Imagio are the only two cellphones supported they say more will be included in the next few months. Video overview below.

There is a way to get multitouch on the Droid and Nexus One, but you have to root your phone to do so. Gizmodo has the how-to on how to make it happen. Even though I have a Droid, rooting my phone isn’t something that I want to do. If you are feeling adventurous the directions seem pretty simple and somewhat short.

Swype for Droid has been unoffically released. MobileCrunch has directions on getting it up and running. The steps don’t seem difficult and are easy to follow. Swype has been wanting OEM installs so this might be the only way your going to get it on Android for awhile. Some of the comments said they had it working on other Android phones.

The Motorola Droid took Time’s top spot for gadgets. The iPhone 3GS dropped down to 4th. I was surprised that Droid took number 1 but it deserves it. It is a really nice phone, the best I have owned. The Nook was number 2 which was surprising since when the top 10 list came out it wasn’t even available or being reviewed by anyone.

You can read over the top 10 list at Time. And for everyone that bought the Droid because I said it was the best can be happy because you bought the best device of the year.

I know a few people with Droids that have the issue of the battery cover falling off. The video above describes how to fix the issue. Pretty simple and only requires a flat head screwdriver. I haven’t had any issues with my Droid but trying this would be better than dealing with trying to return it.

Verizon announced the Motorola Droid today with a launch date of November 6th. I have decided that this will be my new phone as I give up on the Blackberry Storm. The phone looks good and will be running Android 2.0 which features exchange support. Google today announced turn-by-turn navigation for Android 2.0. Boy Genius has a preview of the Droid if your still unsure if you should upgrade to it. I’m excited for the launch.
