The interface really does need a lot of work. They have trouble getting the touchscreen to respond. Reminds me of the Latitude 2100 I had which shipped with linux and a bad driver where the touchscreen was horrible. Still a cool concept that I hope makes it to market.

When is a laptop too thin? I like the outside appearance, with screen closed, of the Dell Adamo XPS but once it opens up it looks like it was smashed and the internals busted out the sides and back. Compared to other thin 13″ laptops it is wider and longer. For example the MacBook Air, which isn’t as thin, but it looks more proportionate when it’s open. What are your thoughts on the Adamo XPS?

The Dell Latitude Z got the hands on treatment by Gizmodo. Our Dell rep, where I work, mentioned this about a year ago. It seems it took some extra time to get everything working well. The best part about the Latitude Z is the wireless technology. You can charge it and dock it without connecting it to any wires. The wireless dock and charger are extra but if your spending $2000 on a laptop you probably don’t care about a few hundred extra. I’m sure someone where I work with be ordering one or Dell might show up for a demo. The video above is from Gizmodo’s hands on.

Dell announced today that the Mini 10 will be getting GPS and Wi-Fi positioning. The GPS chip along with the Wi-Fi will be used to calculate your position. The Mini 10 will be the first system to offer the GPS built-in. The initial release will support Windows XP and Vista with support for Windows 7 coming soon.

I’m excited that GPS will be an option now. More and more services are going location aware and a netbook being an extension to your smartphone makes sense for it to have the same capabilities. Hopefully people can get it working under OS X when it comes out. Then I’ll be all over buying one.

Dell has released a new video of the new Dell Latitude E4200 vs the MacBook Air. The Dell E4200 is a nice small laptop but the video isn’t the greatest. If they wanted to compare the Air to a Dell they should use same screen size and keyboard. Tuck the same size keyboard and screen in a Dell case and then you can compare the two. The E4200 reminds me a lot of the D410 that we use to recommend. I do have a meeting tomorrow with the Higher Ed Dell rep for the area so I’m hoping she brings the mini 9 and the E4200 for us to look at. I’ll make sure to take some pictures if they show up.

Basically Dell warns of the issues with CableCard at the bottom of the post. Direct2Dell even posted a link to the PCMag article which states

According to Clardy, the XPS 420 should have received support for the ATI tuner last week, but the schedule slipped because of “unrelated issues,”

This sounds like it might be very difficult to setup just like the XPS 410 was for people.

I would be concerned about getting these up and running though. Many people had trouble getting the XPS 410, their last attempt, up and running. Dell I would be more than happy to test one of these out at my house. Actually for as much Dell stuff I sell I should just get one.
