It’s a 7″ tablet with a 1024×600 WSVGA capacitive touchscreen. It’s supports multitouch and features HDMI out. Some other notable things are flash, dual cameras, 1080p HD playback and multi-tasking. They have obviously been working hard on the tablet and even the tablet OS looks good. When it was first rumored I had thoughts of the original storm and it’s hacked together touch interface. RIM posted a preview video which I embedded below.

The video below is a video showing off OS 6 for Blackberry. Doesn’t look a whole lot different than OS 5 on the storm to me. What Blackberry needs to do is get developers working on apps. The phone OS is just part of the puzzle, the biggest part are the apps people can download. I couldn’t have been happier moving from the Storm to the Droid. The wife still uses a Storm which just reminds me how far behind their platform is.

BlackBerry Desktop for Mac was released today. This is great news for BlackBerry owners that use Mac. The software auto-launches when you connect your BlackBerry. My options are a little more limited than others because I’m on a BES server through work. You can sync Calendar, Contacts, Notes and Tasks but mine go wireless synchronization so I can’t talk much about those features.

One nice thing was media sync is built-in to the application. Unlike the Palm Pre, who tries to pretend to be an iPod, media sync just syncs either all your playlists or selected playlists to your BlackBerry. The music has to be DRM free but it works well. It doesn’t bother me at all that I have to open BlackBerry Desktop to get my music. If you check the option to sync automatically when connected it makes it even easier.

Back Up and Restore are present like the Windows version. It gives the option to back up/restore all data or select the data you want. Very similar to Windows if that’s what you have been using.

Applications lists the installed applications on your device and give the option to install additional, update existing or uninstall. It also allows you to manage updates on your device. I couldn’t find a way to load unofficial OS like on Windows. For instance OS 5.0 for the Storm. I looked around and a few other sites are saying that it’s not possible. I’m sure someone will figure out how to get around that.

BlackBerry Desktop for Mac has been long awaited by the Mac crowd. It looks to be really solid in my testing. While I don’t need the software a lot it’s nice to know that I have a native Mac client to update and sync music.

BlackBerry has launch App World for the web. This will make browsing for Apps a lot easier than on the device. They still have some work though. Right now you browse for an app and it will email your phone a link to download. I want to hit download on the web and it install on my phone. I know BlackBerry has a digital locker where they keep track of what apps you have installed. Shouldn’t take to much effort to go from web to phone. I’m glad they are working to improve the store.

The unannounced Blackberry Storm 2 now has a little video walk through which is above. The best part is it has the click screen, SurePress. It was rumored that they were going to forgo that for a solid glass screen. I really like the SurePress screen and find it extremely difficult to type on the iPhone now. So far the list of improvements isn’t great. I’m hope that they continue to refine the UI to make it better for touch. Also they need to allow programs access to the memory card so poorly written programs won’t drag down the entire OS. Take pointers from Apple. If a program is leaking to much memory the OS kills the app. It makes developers more aware of the code they write.
