The Alienware’s Hangar18:HD falls into a price point that I can’t afford, and I don’t know the price yet. Just by the looks of it you know it’s expensive. Not to mention that it has 4TB of hot-swappable storage, a built-in Blu-ray player / burner, recording and playback at 1080p (output via HDMI), support for an internal CableCARD (OCUR), and a Dolby Digital 7.1 preamp output. Alienware if your listening I have just built a server room that this would go perfect in. I’m more than happy to test it out for you.

Computer Shopper folks got their hands the Alienware Hangar 18. The review has some nice details and overall was very positive.

Pros
Gorgeous design; offers a complete environment for enjoying high-def television; plentiful input and output connectors

Cons
Inconvenient optical-drive disc ejection; computing power is merely entry-level; doesn’t support unencrypted QAM

Editors’ Take
Built for the upscale mediaphile, the Hangar18 is a well-equipped PC for home media consumption. Just don’t expect too much from its computing side.

It’s taken me some time to actually write about this computer. The Hangar18 is exactly what other media centers need to be. It is a all in one unit that even my parents could hook up. It is a nice sleek design and even has controls right on the front. The starting price of $2000 in my mind is a great deal. You don’t need a receiver, VCR, DVD, and DVR with this unit. So lets say you spend $300 on a DVR, $130 on up-convert DVD player, $60 on a VCR, and $300 on a decent 5.1 receiver. Your really not spending that much more than you would to piece everything out, plus with a media center you get extras. Your entire music and movie collection at the touch of the button. Web surfing from the couch on the big screen.
