3 part Linksys Media Center Extender Review
Chris Lanier has written a 3 part view of the Linksys Media Center Extender. He used the Linksys DMA2200. Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 of the review. This review was very well done. It starts out with the unboxing and he goes into detail about the equipment he uses. One think I really like is that he tested out lots of different file formats. The picture below is a graph he created about the file formats.
Overall he wasn’t happy with the supported file formats. And I agree with him that the extenders are at least $100 overpriced. Below are his list of Pros and Cons. I would suggest reading through the 3 parts if your interested in buying a media center extender. It kind of changed my mind in wanting one so much.
Pros
- Solid design in small package
- Completely slient
- Integrated Upconverting DVD player a plus
- Supports HD streaming
- Easy setup and installation
Cons
- No HDMI cable included
- Lackluster file format support
- Doesn’t output AC3 within AVI files
- Doesn’t output WMV9 Pro as AC3
- Transitions/animations clunky
- Horrible included remote
- Upconverting DVD only so-so quality
